Note to self: You are not Kryptonian, all though you are delusional and believe yourself to be the biological kryptonian mother of Clark Kent.
Yes it could happen this blaxican has popped out some ivory skinned little girls… that being the point I have only given birth to girls.
Oopsies, got pulled back in to the realm of delusion… say it with me:
I am not Kryptonian, I may think I possess mommy super powers, but I don't. Ouch.. that reality check hurts.
Which brings us to the first session of Bloggy Boot Camp Saturday.
You Can't and shouldn't do it all
How hiring help can make you a better blogger and open up a world of opportunities.
These two women taught me that it is ok to admit that I am not from Krypton. That I need to hire help so I can do more of what I love, be better at it and expand. I have a call into a friend who has her own cleaning business. My husband loves a clean house and this will allow me to be better!
Yes the house keeper is going to cost money, but the time I was cleaning my house I was loosing time with my girls, hubby, and my business. Now that will change. Also, I will not stop there, you know how when you go to the eye doctor and have your vision checked. The doctor asks you: “Which eye do you see more clear out of”? After this session it was apparent to me that there are many other areas in which I can delegate in my business to.
I came to these conclusions because we where told to list your responsibilities, brace yourself. Just kidding I am not going list them. I did mentally and it only took putting a few things on the list to realize I needed to hire help.
Keeping it Legal: Law Bloggers – @KerryGorgone
“Trust is like a vase… once it's broken, though it can be fixed the vase will never be the same.- Carol Brady”
Yeah the minute she came up with that quote she had our full attention, why?
1. A Lawyer who quotes Carol Brady from the Brady Bunch has got to be cool.
2. She used my favorite phrase that I use when I speak or I am dealing with clients and my kids: “Do as I say not as I do”.
3. A Lawyer that actually could be funny, entertaining, and not just argumentive, what is not to love!
Kerry shared the Four P's for disclosure with us and they are as follows:
Stealing? How could you? Haven't you learned anything from that guy who gives those sermons at church? We live in a society of laws. – Homer Simpson
Psst… I stoled the picture of her and I, from her instagram and the group picture of all of us from her Facebook Cover.
AL: We Don't need the lottery We have each other.” Peggy: “I want the Lottery” – Peg Bundy
“I hate lawyers. I only work for them.” Erin Brokovich
Nothing is clean! This whole place is a mess!” – Mommy Dearest
Yes you had to be there, but just by these quotes alone you can tell Kerry was not the typical Lawyer you find speaking at blog conferences. The invisible snooze button I normally hit was off the clock, trust me it exists I have used it on other lawyers at conferences. Kerry needs to be the go to lawyer for all blogging conferences. Connect with her via Twitter, she gave a tinyurl link to us maybe she will share it with you. @KerryGorgone
Going forward in this recap post I will just share one key point from the sessions. I want to encourage you to invest in yourself and go to a blog conference.
It may be the “I use to be a direct sales consultant mentality” coming out in me. But it is a proven fact that those consultants that attend their companies conferences every year have a higher success rate. This fact definitely applies to Bloggers also.
When attending blog conferences you will meet some of the most amazing people to add to your tribe. Just do as I say and as I do when it comes to attending conferences.
@childhood The hectic Schedule of a Social Media Manager
Great session you just had to be there. She spoke about ways to land a corporate position by pitching your skills.
There are 6 reasons a company should hire a social media specialist, but I am only sharing one reason with you:
Two engage one-on-one with their audience on a personal level.
How to use Enterprise-level tools to improve your blog's performance and maximize your earning potential
Value…You can deliver numbers for days to deliver to brand or agency, but at the end of the day think about the value your blog is building.
- Relationships are the most value
- Trust is the currency of the internet
- Influence is what trust leads to, brands want to borrow your trust from your blog
Lynette Young – Google+ Unwrapped
— Gigi [KludgyMom] (@KludgyMom) April 13, 2013
I might eat my words from above about only sharing one point, Lynette was amazing. If you where not already in love with Google+ you left with a sense you where missing out. Drink the Google+ kool aid, it is good for you. On to Lynette's points:
- Google+ is searchable and Google owns Google+ and no one loves Google more then Google.
- Google+ is follow unlike Facebook and Pinterest.
- Public equals search engine always do public.
- About tab and it is indexed by Google use this real estate as much as you can and use your keywords.
- Not like Facebook at all content is evergreen in search and platform.
Make sure to add Lynette to your circles on Google+
Hell Yeah… was the topic session for @DanielleSmithtv
I must say Danielle is one of the most approachable speakers I have met, when attending conferences. Wendyshat, BillieHillier and myself enjoyed having breakfast with Danielle, Saturday morning. The breakfast was sponsored by Invisalign.
But back to Danielle's session. Collaboration, is so powerful, I learn so much from others when they are speaking about what they are passionate about, so naturally I loved this quote :
Danielle is so right about this, I can not count on my 10 fingers and 10 toes how many times a day I say sorry for something that does not require me to say I am sorry.
There have been so many times I should have said No and kept on going. It is not a five letter word, the following tweet and quotes speak for themselves.
IF IT IS NOT A HELL YEAH! IT'S A NO – DEREK SIVERS
I don't owe anyone a yes and I don't owe them an excuse why. – Tiffany Romero
Every time you take on projects that you are not excited about you are loosing room for the things in life that matter. -Danielle Smith
To me there is no such thing as luck, You work hard and you don't quit and the opportunities will greet you with open arms when you reap your rewards. Just to clarify among the quotes I have shared here, this last sentence is me, Eleanor speaking.
Random Tweet I found with the #BBCPHX hashtag and loved:

As if you didn't know that bloggers are hams..
No Bloggy Boot Camp would be complete without #Mirassou Wines.
Dave Mirassou always indulges the Bloggy Boot Camp attendees. I think I will let the pictures do the storytelling.
Here is a video from the all the fun, it is quite loud. What do you expect when you get over a hundred bloggers together who express themselves through text daily on the internet?
Oh and as Kerry Gorgone said “Disclosure” I am disclosing. What am I disclosing? Well you will be able to tell in my voice when I had enjoyed a glass of wine.
Thank you #CollectiveBias and #Mirassou for hosting the wonderful receptions and Invisalign for a nice and informative breakfast.
