Sometimes blogging can feel very one-sided. You’re writing posts that you’ve poured your heart into and are trying to share great content with your readers. But they’re not responding. Don’t be discouraged; it’s easy to get things turned around.
Blogs were designed to facilitate engagement and communications between the writer and their audience. That’s why it’s important to encourage comments. Combine this with a little social media interaction and you’ll be able to turn your posts into a fully engaged conversation that will help you grow a loyal blog tribe.
While it’s definitely nice for our ego to get lots of comments and interactions on our blog posts, when you’re blogging for a living what really counts at the end of the month is if you’re earning enough money to cover the bills. For that to happen you need a loyal audience that not only likes and trusts you but is also comfortable spending money with you or your sponsors. For this to happen your audience has to be engaged with what you have to say.
Interaction helps you out too because with each email your readers send you, with each comment they post, and each social media post they write, you’ll learn a bit more about your target audience and figure out how you can best serve them. That’s the key to blogging success. Know your market, serve your market, and present them with offers to help them reach their goals or fill their need.
How can you get started getting your audience to engage with you? Start by asking them the right questions, or asking them for feedback and by encouraging them to share their opinions. For example, let’s say that you’re writing a blog post about how to get your baby to sleep through the night. Within that blog post, ask your readers what their own experiences are with their infants and what worked for them. Ask them if they are struggling with getting enough sleep because they’re up with the baby at all hours. Encourage them to share their stories and make it easy for them to leave comments.
As soon as you see that first comment or two pop up, be sure to reply to them and keep the conversation going. This will help you out in two ways. You’ll have a great conversation with your blog reader, feel like you helped them and may have the chance to have an ongoing relationship with them. It also encourages other readers that you really want to hear from them and value their input. That’s what will encourage more and more of your readers to comment.
The same principle applies for social media engagement. When you post a link to your latest blog post, ask your friends and followers to like, share, and comment. Be sure to let them know how much you appreciate it when they do! Try asking a question related to your blog post on Facebook. It’s a great way to share another link to your blog post and get the conversation going at the same time.
Try this tips out and you’ll find that applied consistently, your reader engagement, followers, and income will increase over time.
One more thing before I sign off on this post, being engaging with your readers will lead them to take action. If you would like to know how to get more action from your blog readers, click here to find out how I do it. ?
