So what is Instagram? How can it Benefit Me?
Instagram grew just as quickly as Facebook did. Rather than having the option to post a status OR a photo, Instagram eliminates the option and makes you post a photo, such as a selfie, most people choosing to add a caption using hashtags.
There are over 300 million users on Instagram, and that number continues to grow. That is a significant amount of people that you could be reaching by participating on the growing platform.
Whether you are a local business, not offering online sales, or you are a larger business mainly offering sales online to people all over the world, Instagram can help you connect personally with your clients and potential customers.
This is the platform that contributed the most in making the “selfie” popular, especially in the younger generation. But you can post so much more than that and reach people in many ways.
Product photos: If you sell a products you can post photos of them, sneak peeks of new ones, re-post images of your customers with their product etc. It’s easy to make a presence with a product on Instagram.
Selfies: Some people love them (typically the younger generation) and some people hate them (typically the older generation, those that didn’t grow up with social media.) Either way posting selfies with style can boost your personal presence to your customers. They want to know who the person is behind the product, behind the brand, who are they buying from? Posting photos of yourself with your product, or working on creating your product, with your employees, etc. can boost that personal level in your business, in turn making people feel more confident in purchasing with you rather than competitors.
Hashtags: This is the big one. If you are going to use Instagram, hashtags are your most important topic to master. They are SO beneficial to you! I have said it before Hashtags are your new “BFF”. On this platform you will have people “follow” you, so that your images pop up in their feeds. Whether you follow them back or not is up to you. But hashtags make it easy to reach other people as well, those that don’t follow you, but might click to follow you because they like following certain hashtags. For example, if you post something about a new makeup product, you could add things like #fashion #makeup #color #lovethatcolor or #makeupaddict as hashtags. You also always want to have a business hashtag. Say your business name is Francisco Fashion, make your hashtag #franciscofashion, this will be easy for customers to remember when posting photos of your product, and will allow you to search and see all posts made with your personal hashtag.
Hashtags will allow people who do not yet follow you to see your posts on Instagram if they like seeing posts with the hashtags that you chose to use. That is why it is important to use relevant hashtags for your product/business.
It is Scientifically proven as this quote from Buffer App's blog states:
Instagram is another hotspot for hashtags, and the good news for those who love to extensively tag photos is that there doesn’t seem to be a saturation point.
Interactions are highest on Instagram posts with 11+ hashtags.
A rule of thumb could be: Don’t sweat your amount of Instagram hashtags.
