Yes that was what I use to ask myself as a kid. Why could my parents of not been more original. My dad named me after his baby Sister Eleanor Sue also known as Red (family nick names). Maybe one reason I refused to let Madeline and Makenna my two oldest daughter's other parent (my attempt to be nice and not call him what I want) name them. With Dallice her daddy actually made me share the honor of naming her. There will be 3 posts coming your way soon on how I came up with their names. But I digress, let's get back to me.
I use to be teased or sang to. Namely my dad's friend Tony use to sing to me “Eleanor Rigby” a song from the Beattles…
“Eleanor Rigby picks up the rice in the church where a wedding has been, Lives in a dream
Waits at the window, wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door
Who is it for?
Ah, look at all the lonely people
Ah, look at all the lonely people
Eleanor Rigby died in the church and was buried along with her name
Nobody came”
Need I say more, that would only scar any little kid. Can you say Morbid!
So I decided to look for the meaning of my name…
Well according to J.R.R. Tolkien and his artificial Sindarin language “Eleanor” is a feminine name which means “star sun”. Then the baby dictionary had this to say: Derived from Alienor, a Provençal form of the Greek Helenē, which is derived from the element ēlē (light, torch, bright).
When I was in high school my friend was talking to her boyfriend and me on a three way phone conversation. Yes with a phone that plugged in to the wall, wait for it ..with a cord. The first thing he said when she told him my name. “Eleanor, that is an old ladies name.” – Terry
So when did I come to appreciate my name? Gone in 60 seconds, who else can say she has the same name as a fast and fierce Shelby GT500 Mustang! A moment of “Audaciousness” for me.
Luv Me
