Twitter has done it again! The creation of Periscope happened a while back, and now it’s blowing up mobile devices like crazy! Before starting with Periscope, there are some tips and tricks that you will want to know for the best result whether using it for business or personal use.
For specific devices, android or apple, this tutorial from the Traffic Generation Cafe blog will walk you through on both types of devices so that you can easily get started on your Periscope journey.
In this article, we are going to talk about Periscope in general and how you can use it for your personal use or to expand your business.
The first item on your checklist is going to be to register a name. Periscope only allows one person to a username, if someone claims it before you, you will be out of luck and have to choose something else. Even if you are not planning on using it any time soon, just the thought of using it should be enough to get you to register your custom name so that no one else takes it. I scored and got my name @EleanorPrior for my username. There is another Eleanor Prior out there ….
When you are ready to start making videos and broadcasting on the app, log in, and click the little camera in the bottom corner. This will open a screen where you can name your broadcast. Once it’s started and you begin to record, you will be live. That video will only be available for 24 hours, and all of your followers will be notified.
Before you start broadcasting be sure to tell your audience, wherever they may be online and whoever they are, that they should follow you on Periscope. Psst… Are you following me on Periscope? I did tell you my username is @EleanorPrior just making sure. The only people who get notified are those who are your followers. You can also let those watching know to invite their friends so that they also get notified about the broadcast.
It’s okay to be a watcher for a while.
There are thousands of users on the platform right now who don’t broadcast anything. Check out what others in your industry are doing, take notes, follow some small business entrepreneurs, and get a game plan together for how you are going to do your own Periscopes.
Make sure that you have a good internet connection before you begin or your audience won’t be able to see and hear you very well.
It’s also a good idea to stabilize your phone or tablet, whichever you are choosing to use, before starting your video. It gets annoying to viewers when the camera is moving around all over the place.
Turning your phone on airplane mode before starting will remove outside distractions on your phone. If you happen to get a text or a phone call while Periscoping, the video will glitch and might close down the app in certain cases. Airplane mode will stop this from happening.
That is it for what I have discovered using Periscope so far, but I am loving it! Oh I almost forgot, would you like to catch the latest and greatest Periscope streams Live right now on your desk top? Check out Quick Scope and get the extension for either Chrome or Fire Fox.

Katch.me is another way to view Periscopes online and Meerkat. It is automatic, fast, and powerful so you can reach your audience. You can share by embedding the code they provide for your video or a link. This is how they describe themselves in their Twitter bio:
I look forward to seeing your Periscopes on Katch.
