What is Pinterest, How does it benefit me?
This is a big question for many small business owners. Far too many people feel that Pinterest can’t help them in business, but the truth is that it really can, in so many ways!
Trust me Pinning is good for the Soul and for business, the facts don't lie…
There are over 72 million users on Pinterest, and that number is growing every minute. If you are unfamiliar with what Pinterest is, it’s a social media platform where people make beautiful visually appealing image posts, and you can “pin” them on your “boards” to save them for browsing over later.
People use Pinterest as a way to gather ideas and save things in an organized fashion. You can get people to save YOUR links to YOUR site, no matter what kind of business.
With the click of a button someone can share a pin, and all of their friends will see it, and possibly re-pin it themselves, and so on and so forth. See how easy it was to get that link shared? If you come up with the right content, things that people want to see and share with others, you can drive traffic to your content in no time.
If you run a local business…
Running a local business can be difficult with online marketing, and Pinterest is no different. You will be reaching folks that aren’t so local to you.
However, this is by no means a bad thing, and yes, it will benefit your business. For example, I was in a local business one day and due to social media a customer who flew into Vegas on their way to California drove half way across the valley in the opposite direction just to get to Retro Bakery. Retro Bakery is in the complete opposite direction of California.
When you make a post and use a backlink, it will make your content pop up in Google more often. This is called SEO, and it is going to become one of your besties. The more posts and social media sites that you have going (that you regularly keep up with) the more your name is going to pop up, and THAT is important to reach those locals.
Why don't you open a new window in Google and Google me, for a visual example: “Eleanor Prior”
If you run an online business…
Online businesses can benefit from Pinterest by posting their products. Post a professional looking photo of your product, use a backlink, and people will begin sharing it. This will work with just about any kind of product.
I also like to watermark my images with a link back to my site.
Both online businesses and local businesses should have a blog, (a WordPress.org blog we won't get Eleanor started on her tangent) it’s going to boost your SEO and business in general. Use those blog posts as pins on Pinterest and provide a short, sweet description on the pin. This is an easy and fast way to get those posts out there. ALWAYS be sure to include backlinks to your site on all social media platforms.
If you run a blog…
Bloggers, you are going to have the most benefit from this. As mentioned above, every business should blog via a Self Hosted WordPress.org site, even if it’s just a few times a week. If your business IS a blog, you can follow the same guidelines for posting your blog content to drive up traffic on your page. Be sure to use quality images, provide SEO friendly descriptions, and promote your Pinterest page or boards on your blogs as well.
